Lion Encounter Livingstone operates stage one of the African Lion Rehabilitation & Release into the Wild Program, supported by ALERT. For a full description of this program, along with answers to some frequently asked questions, please click here.
You are invited to gain the unique experience of walking alongside and interacting with the lions as they play, learn to hunt and prepare for release. At times, the lions may rest allowing you a close encounter and a chance to get a photo with them.
Lion Encounter Livingstone operates within the beautiful Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and Dambwa Forest affording the guests an opportunity to see several of Zambia's other keystone species that you may encounter whilst with with the lions.

The Lion Walk... Guests are collected from their lodges and comfortably transported the short distance to our reception area within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park where our friendly hospitality team is waiting to greet you. You will enjoy a short film giving you an introduction to our conservation and community development efforts before receiving the all important safety briefing. The lions are already waiting for you in the Bush, and you will join them as they learn about their natural environment, accompanied by our experienced guides, lion handlers and scouts. Following your walk you will return to our reception area to enjoy some light refreshments on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River.
Daily departures at 06:30, 10:30 and 14:30. Price includes return transfers from all accommodation in Livingstone town, the ALERT presentation & safety talk, the Lion Walk & refreshments,
Age and height restrictions apply: Minimum age 15 years (children aged 15 - 18 years must be accompanied by a guardian. Minimum height 1.5 metres or 5 feet.

Encounters for Cubs... There is no need for parents to miss out on one of the best experiences in Zambia! Why not bring your cubs along and know that they are well catered for whilst you enjoy your walk on the wild side. The youngsters will embark on a Bush walk, David Livingstone style, to practice their tracking skills, explore the many wonders of the wild and discover the beasts at the end of the trail. They will meet you back at the Boma to.
All other details are the same as for the Lion Walk.
Age and height restrictions apply: If we have cubs between the ages of 3 and 5 months your children will have a supervised enounter inside the cub enclosure provided they are at least 10 years old and 1m / 3ft 4". If our cubs are 6 - 7 months old youngsters must be 12 years and 1.2m / 4ft tall. There are no exceptions to these restrictions. You may request that your children observe the lions from outside the enclosure only. Please check on our lions ages at the time of booking.

If you are part of a group of more than 24 then our Encounters for Prides option will suit you. Your group is invited to join us at our reception area to enjoy the ALERT presentation describing our conservation and community development efforts before receiving the all important safety briefing. In smaller groups of 8 - 10 you will join the lions for a precious twenty minutes in their natural habitat.
By appointment only. Guests are requested to make their own way to and from the Lion Encounter reception although transport can be arranged for extra cost. Price includes the ALERT presentation & safety talk and twenty minutes with the lions in the Bush. Snacks and drinks can be provided at extra cost.
Age and height restrictions apply: If any members of your group do not meet our minimum age of 15 years and/or our minimum height of 1.5 metres or 5 feet then you will be only able to view the lions from outside of their enclosure.

The Night Encounter... We invite you to follow us under the cover of darkness to join our older cubs (18 - 30 months) as they head into the night to practice their hunting techniques as the final part of their pre-release training. Few visitors to Africa ever get the opportunity to watch a lion hunting, let alone be a part of the pride as we follow the action.

A Drive in Lion Country... Guests will be ccollected from their lodging and driven deep within the stunning Dambwa Forest. Our hospitality team will greet you with a warm African smile and welcome drinks at our reception area nestled in a grove of trees. After watching a short DVD about the lion release program you will receive a safety briefing. You are then invited to board our game viewers and Drive into Lion Country. Amogst the game species you may encounter, you will meet and follow a pride of lion as they prepare for release. Your guide will offer an intimate insight into the behaviours of the pride as they play and practice the hunt.
